Job Summary

This position will be a direct report to the Regional Operations Manager with direct communications with multi-agency staff. The routine responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Work closely with client and firm management on roadway incident response standard operating procedures and training

  • Oversee the development of standardized incident response plans for major, traffic-impacting, events

  • Collaborate with emergency responders on response protocols and available contacted services

  • Establish opportunities for multiple agency attended “after action meetings”

  • Implement a safety monitoring and reporting system for responder supervisors

  • Research and recommend new incident response technologies that can be applied to responder procedures, uniforms, vehicles, and equipment

  • Work closely with the Project’s Safety, Asset, and Training teams to provide responder personnel the training and resources needed to properly execute their roles

  • Research, review and share national incident management best practices for implementation

  • Evaluate and maintain the implementation of a multi-band, closed radio network , comprised of hand-held units and control room base stations

Minimum Requirements

  • High School Diploma and or equivalent certification

  • 3+ years of experience as an Incident Response Coordinator or in Civil Engineering or other Traffic Management related experience

  • Must pass a State and Federal criminal history/security background check; must also successfully complete Virginia Department of Transportation fingerprint-based Criminal History Records Check (CHRC).

  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screen

  • Must participate in and successfully complete a post-offer, pre-employment fitness for duty questionnaire

  • Physically able, with or without an accommodation, to work in an office or outdoor environments. Position requires frequent keyboard/mouse operations, performing repetitive fine hand movements, and sitting for long periods of time; occasionally operating vehicles; rarely standing/walking. Position entails sitting for long periods of time; monitoring VDOT and emergency radio broadcasts and law enforcement radio

  • Knowledgeable/experienced in incident response procedures and dispatch services

  • Ability to be calm and effective under pressure and in a variety of work conditions

  • Ability to coordinate real time activities and initiate immediate priorities, for self and support staff

  • Effective in both oral and written communications

  • Skilled in standard software applications such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, Access, Outlook)

  • Radio and phone communications experience

  • Ability to work in a team environment under stressful conditions

  • Must be able to work in a Control Room or outdoors field work environment

  • Ability to perform effectively in a fast paced environment requiring high level of multi-tasking

  • Ability to communicate clearly both in writing and verbally

  • Ability to work alternate work schedules in support of 24/7/365 operation center; Schedules are dictated by need of operation and stated in advance. Schedules will vary.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge/experience of national command system organization and goals

  • Geographic familiarity with regional arterial and interstate road network

  • Bachelors of Science Degree or equivalent experience in engineering, business management, criminal justice, incident management or related field
